This part-time program enables students to obtain a Harvard graduate degree in public health without disrupting their current work or home lives.

The Harvard MPH in Epidemiology is a 45-credit program of part-time study over two years. The MPH curriculum comprises a carefully designed set of courses that are sequenced to build on the knowledge and skills obtained in each course. The goal is for every student to achieve mastery of advanced epidemiological methods and applications.

The first year curriculum covers the following core elements of Epidemiology and Public Health:

  • Introductory Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  • Analytic Methods
  • Study Design
  • Causal Inference
  • Fundamental Concepts in Public Health

The second year curriculum is a series of electives addressing intermediate and advanced areas of Epidemiology such as meta-analysis, outbreak investigations, propensity scores, prediction rules, infectious disease epidemiology, and chronic disease epidemiology.

The Harvard MPH in Epidemiology is designed for individuals seeking specialization in advanced quantitative methods of epidemiology and its applications for clinical and population health research, policy, and programs. The degree also provides a public health framework for epidemiologists.Eligible applicants for the Harvard MPH in Epidemiology should:Hold a doctoral degree in a health profession or academic area related to public health orHold a professional master’s degree in a health-related field with at least three years of health-related work experience following completion of the degree.
Grant funds will be made available to participants in the Harvard MPH in Epidemiology program at the same levels at which support is provided to other master’s degree students. Since the program is less than half-time, students in this program are not eligible for U.S. federal student loans.
