This unique, highly flexible interdisciplinary programme allows healthcare professionals to study a set of modules tailored to their specific needs. Participants at all career stages may study areas that complement and extend their existing knowledge to support their particular ongoing career goals so enabling them to gain the maximum added value from their studies.

Led by specialists, this broad, adaptable programme aims to provide personalised professional education which equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed for effective working in contemporary and future healthcare. It provides access to a broad range of modules which reflect the breadth of UCL and span all aspects of clinical practice, professional development, research, service improvement and healthcare delivery.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of two core modules (30 credits), six optional modules (90 credits) and a research dissertation (60 credits).

A Postgraduate Diploma comprising of one core module (15 credits) and seven optional modules (105 credits), flexible 2-5 years is offered.

A Postgraduate Certificate comprised of one core module (15 credits) and three optional modules (45 credits), flexible 1-2 years is offered.

  • Healthcare Quality and Evidence Based Practice
  • Research Methods in Healthcare or a suitable alternative

Optional modules

Options can be chosen from each of these three categories:

  • Professional Development (e.g. leadership, clinical education, research skills, health informatics)
  • Clinical practice/patient care
  • Service Improvement

Dissertation/report

All MSc students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of 15,000 to 20,000 words.

Teaching and learning

Some modules are taught by full distance learnnig.  Other modules are delivered through blended learning, combining formal contact time with academic staff, research fellows and guest speakers, and interactive online study using the virtual learning environment. The amount and timing of campous attendance varies between modules - see module library for details. Assessment varies according to the modules selected.

A medical degree (MBBS) or a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Students who do not meet these requirements but have appropriate professional experience will also be considered. Students who have previously undertaken CPD may apply for accreditation of prior learning.

Studentships may be available for UK and EU applicants to assist with the payment of fees.
