At the Civil Engineering Faculty Subotica, PhD studies within the Civil Engineering Program offer a number of elective courses that allow candidates to choose an area of study. A student may choose from structural and materials engineering or hydraulic, water resources and environmental engineering, or a combination of the two areas of expertise. In the case that the candidate chooses to study hydraulic, water resources and environmental engineering, the recommended courses are: mathematical courses, a course on the principles of measurements; courses on viscous flow, turbulent flows, and catchments processes; a group of experimental courses; a group of theoretical-numerical courses; a sedimentation processes course and a wastewater treatment course.

Contents

The group of mathematical courses (Numerical Analysis; Linear Algebra - Vectors, Matrices, Tensors; Differential and Integral Equations) offer the mathematical background needed for theoretical and numerical professional courses.
The Principles of Measurements course in Water Resources Research provides the experimental physics background needed for professional courses dealing with measurements in the area of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering.
The theoretical courses (Viscous Fluid Flow; Turbulent Flow and Turbulence Modeling; Catchments Processes Modeling) provide the theoretical basis for studying flow, transport processes, and hydro-meteorological processes.
The experimental courses (Experimental Hydraulics; Field Measurements; Experimental Fluid Mechanics) provide both theory and practical experience in using contemporary measurement techniques in data collection and experimental work. The coursework includes the classical laboratory work of experimental hydraulics, field data collection (often used for models´ calibration), and laboratory investigations of flow and transport processes details.
The group of theoretical - numerical courses (Groundwater Flow and Transport; Computational Hydraulics - 1D Flow and Transport; Hydraulic Transients; Computational Hydraulics - 2D Flow and Transport; Computational Fluid Dynamics) provide both theory and practical experience in the development and application of mathematical models for flow and transport processes, simulation and prediction.
PhD studies in Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering also includes the course Sediment Transport and Morphological Processes (dealing with sediment processes and resulting morphological changes in natural and man-made watercourses), as well as the course Contemporary Wastewater Treatment Techniques (providing in-depth and up-to-date knowledge in wastewater treatment).
