The course combines a more traditional focus on industrial relations with workplace learning and broader human resource development issues.

This course is designed to meet the learning and professional development needs of a range of practitioners, including trade union organisers and representatives, managers, researchers and policy-makers who are involved in employee relations either from the perspective of the individual or the organisation, as well as those who require a broad academic foundation for work in these fields.

Students will generally be involved in delivering, managing or promoting learning and training in an unionised environment.

Teaching and assessment methods

The course is studied by distance learning and is based upon the principles of continuous assessment. Each course starts with the Academic Writing Skills (AWS) module, which is designed to prepare you for studying at Masters level at CLMS. You will then be required to complete an assignment of 4,000-5,000 words at the end of each of the four modules and a 16,000-20,000 word dissertation.

* Possession of a first or second-class honours degree (or its equivalent) in a relevant field * OR an approved professional qualification coupled with three years or more suitable professional experience. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 600 TOEFL iBT® test: 90 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
