An MSc programme that combines the field of engineering with planning, innovation, and management competencies.

When it comes to the development, implementation, and management of technical solutions, industry needs people with quantitative and qualitative interdisciplinary management competencies. This is becoming increasingly more relevant in a complex and globalized world where engineers capable of working at the interface between business and engineering are in high demand.

Study programme focus

On the programme, you will participate in courses at a high academic level providing you with both quantitative and qualitative management competencies. You will work with mathematical optimization (operations research), simulation, and other quantitative tools together with a number of process tools that are crucial in the context of project management and change management. In addition, the programme focuses on the typical areas where extensive management competencies play a decisive role—e.g. operations management, supply chain management, innovation management, and problem structuring. The programme also contains a compulsory course in technical management of sustainable development.

Specializations

You can specialize in one of the three study lines:

  • Innovation and Strategic Management
  • Management and Analysis of Operations
  • Production and Project Management

You should be aware, however, that your choice of courses in your individual study plan offers a high degree of flexibility. Therefore, you have every opportunity to design your own study programme and career by choosing from the wide range of courses offered at DTU.

Career

Industrial Engineering and Management graduates typically find jobs in private or public-sector companies or organizations. Fields of activity generally include planning, technology, and operations management, development and innovation, and consultancy.

Programme provision

To earn the title MSc in Engineering Management, the student must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Have passed a minimum of 30 points in the group of General Competencies
  • Have passed a minimum of 30 points in the group of Technological Specialization Courses
  • Have completed and passed an MSc Thesis equaling at least 30 points within the program’s disciplines

Only applicants holding either a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, a Bachelor in Engineering or a Bachelor of Natural Science degree can be admitted to a Master of Science in Engineering programme. From September 2017 the bachelor degree must be less than 10 years old.

The individual MSc Eng programme states in detail which bachelor programmes qualify and whether applicants have to complete supplementary educational activities.

Requirements for supplementary educational activities can equate to up to 30 ECTS credits and are specified in the form of a list of courses under the individual MSc Eng programmes.

The specific requirements must be met before graduating from the bachelor programme or in connection with conditional admission to a particular MSc Eng programme. The courses must be passed prior to the commencement of studies within one year from the conditional admission.

Supplementary educational activities in connection with conditional admission to an MSc Eng programme do not form part of the MSc Eng programme, and partial tuition fees are charged. If the supplementary courses have not been passed within the deadlines specified, the conditional admission to the programme is withdrawn.

The Master of Science in Engineering programmes are offered in English. Therefore applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English (B-level, IELTS, TOEFL- or Pearson test).
