Glocal International Development is an innovative MA program in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The 18-month program aims to provide students with the academic theory and background, as well as professional skills and tools to work with communities across the globe. An integral part of the program is a four-month internship with an international NGO in a developing country, held during third semester of the program. If you are an individual with a global perspective on the one hand, and an appreciation for local solutions on the other, come join Glocal, which offers a unique opportunity to gain development expertise and to play a meaningful role in advancing communities both in Israel and across the world.

Students earn an M.A. in Glocal International Development over the course of 18 months. The first year includes two academic semesters of coursework while in the second year, students participate in a 4-month internship and a final 8-week concluding seminar.

  • The first two semesters in Glocal are dedicated to theoretical courses. Courses take place two days a week.
  • In addition to the theoretical courses, the second semester in Glocal is dedicated to expanding professional expertise and to the completion of a mini-practicum at an Israeli organization.
  • Through the third semester in Glocal, our students pursue their internships in local or international organizations. Internships are full-time for the duration of four months.
  • Upon completion of their internships, Glocal students return to Jerusalem for an 8-week closing seminar. The graduation ceremony and the program’s annual conference takes place at the end of the seminar while the Students are expected to complete their final seminar paper by the end of the 4th semester.
