Jazz & Improvisation embraces a studio intensive pedagogy where students learn performance and composition skills within individual and ensemble performance contexts. Through the African-American tradition of Jazz, Blues, RnB, Gospel and the European traditions of folk, indie and experimental music for example, improvisational processes and pedagogy facilitate the development of the musician beyond genre to where the student may realize their personal voice. Balancing technical skill and creativity, students develop advanced skills in performance and composition that enables them to engage with and lead contemporary music making in a global environment.

Students receive practical tuition through weekly individual instrumental or vocal lessons, instrument classes, extensive solo and ensemble performance opportunities, and regular master classes with distinguished national and international artists and teachers.
