The degree course is structured in order to provide the students with a solid legal culture on both national and European basis as well as with the essential instruments to update their own competences also through an in-depth analysis of the historical background of the legal notions. The teaching activities are supported by seminars which allow the students to develop specific competences and abilities to interpret the law not only through a theoretical approach but also trough a case by case method, especially with reference to topics useful to understand and evaluate principles and institutes of the law.

Expected learning outcomesThe 2nd cycle degree programme in Law is established under the Ministerial Decree 270/2004. The new five year degree programme will train graduates in the practice of law, as lawers or judges. Upon completion of the programme, the latter will be able to perform activities and be employed, in reference to positions characterised by substantial responsibility, in various fields of social, socio-economic and political nature; or in institutions, public administration, private enterprises, sector unions, in the informatics sector, the comparative, international and EC law sector, as well as in international organizations where analysis, evaluation and decision making abilities of the lawyer prove fruitful beyond the sectoral expensive.

Applicants to the degree programme shall hold a five-year secondary school diploma or equivalent suitable qualification obtained abroad, or a four-year secondary school diploma and diploma for the relative supplementary year, or, where this is not possible, will be assigned additional learning credits.
Applicants shall also possess appropriate general knowledge.


For the single cycle degree programme in Law running at the Ravenna campus, the following knowledge and skills are required:
- good general knowledge;
- logical and reasoning skills;
- ability to understand and interpret texts and documents (in Italian);
- knowledge of basic law;


The above knowledge will be tested through a mandatory self-assessment test for all new students. The test procedures will be decided upon by the School Board at the proposal of the Degree Programme Board and published on the University portal.


Candidates who do not achieve a positive grade in the test will be assigned additional learning requirements (OFA), to be completed during the first year of the programme.
Students failing to meet the assigned OFA requirements will be required to enrol as "repeating students" to the year in question.

Students are exempted from being tested or assigned additional learning requirements (OFA) if:

− they are already registered to previous academic years at another Italian or foreign university (including transfers from other programmes);
− they already hold a degree or university diploma;
− they are exercising the right to opt into the new degree programme system;
− they are enrolling after withdrawal/expiry and have already passed at least one of the following course units: Private Law, Constitutional law, Institutions of Roman Law.

In all other cases, exemption from the assessment of knowledge and skills will be decided by the Degree Programme Board.

The University of Bologna offers study grants of 11.000 € gross to deserving international students who wish to register for First Cycle, Second Cycle or Single Cycle Degree Programmes at the University of Bologna for A.Y. 2016/17.

Unibo Action 2 study grants are assigned on the basis of SAT and GRE test scores.

Requirements

You can apply for Unibo Action 2 if:

  • you are in possession of (or about to obtain) a valid qualification for access to your chosen Degree Programme, issued by an Institution outside of the Italian educational system;  
     
  • you will sit one of the following tests by the application deadline:
    SAT (if you are interested in registering in a First or Single Cycle Degree Programme)
    GRE (if you are interested in registering in a Second Cycle Degree Programme)
  • you are younger than 30 years.

SAT and GRE test are aptitude and skills assessment tests. The tests can be sat in authorised centres in various countries around the world; they are held in English. You must enrol for the tests on the websites of the organisations managing the tests.

The codes needed to send test scores to the University of Bologna are: for SAT 6993; for GRE 7850.
