The Faculty of Theology at the University of Lucerne has offered the new Master of Theology in Liturgical Music course since the fall semester of 2008. It is taught in conjunction with the music department at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
The study programme
Music and theology have long been intertwined, especially in ecclesiastical occupations, but until now could only be studied separately. The Faculty of Theology at the University of Lucerne is now offering an interdisciplinary Master of Theology in Liturgical Music (MTh LM) in conjunction with the Department of Liturgical Music at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

This course allows students to combine the subjects of music and theology in a professional qualification. The academic, theoretical and practical aspects offered in the subject of Gregorian music are particularly interesting elements of the course design, and are unique in Switzerland.

The course is a component of the study programme at the Faculty of Theology, complemented by music modules at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The curriculum can be customised depending on students educational backgrounds. It therefore provides an excellent foundation for future professional pastoral, institutional or academic work.
