The programme provides graduates with strong mathematical skills, the necessary computational techniques and finance background relevant to subsequent employment in a sector of finance such as investment banks, hedge funds, insurance companies and the finance departments of large corporations where mathematics plays a key role.

The depth of the mathematics taught should enable graduates to pursue research careers in stochastic analysis, financial mathematics or other relevant areas.

The period October to June is devoted to lectures, tutorials and practical sessions comprising the core and optional modules. This is followed by a period of about 14 weeks devoted to an individual project.

Semester 1 * Theory of Integration and Martingales
* Stochastic Models in Finance

Funding available for all students
Departmental Bursaries and Scholarships

Many departments offer bursaries to eligible categories of students, and scholarships on a competitive basis, some of which cover all tuition fees. Up-to-date information is available from our website at or speak to the department concerned.

Loughborough Sports Scholarships

We aim to provide our sports scholars with first class coaching, sports science and sports medicine support, access to extensive indoor and outdoor training and competition facilities, a life skills programme, a high level of support and an annual cash award.

Our elite sports scholarships offer exceptional students targeting the 2012 Olympics or the 2014 Commonwealth Games all of the above along with a contribution of up to £3,000 towards tuition fees, facility membership (where applicable) and free parking on campus.

To be eligible to apply for either sports scholarship you need to have gained a place on a postgraduate course and be competing in your chosen sport at least at junior international level.

Music Tuition and Scholarships

The Music Centre offers subsidised music tuition in a range of instruments or for voice selected via open auditions. Those selected receive thirty minutes tuition per week for twenty weeks. The cost of this would be £250, but via the scheme, students only pay a £50 registration fee.

You must register your interest for the tuition at the start of each academic year. The University also offers up to three competitive music scholarships each year selected by an independent panel of distinguished musicians.

These are awards of £500 and the scholars are expected to give a recital in the Spring. For further information contact a.beavis-harrison@lboro.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0)1509 222960

Prizes

University and departmental prizes and bursaries are awarded in many departments to postgraduate students who perform exceptionally well in their work or who contribute to the development of cooperation between the University and the local community.

Prizes awarded to postgraduate students currently include the prestigious Loughborough University Graduate School Prizes each worth £400, and two John Guest Memorial Travelling Scholarships, each valued at £500, awarded to research students to give them the opportunity to extend their knowledge of their subject, either within this country or overseas.

Access to Learning Fund (ALF)

The ALF is available to UK postgraduate (taught and research) students studying at least 50% of a full-time course who experience unanticipated and serious financial difficulties. To qualify, students must meet the same residence conditions as for student loans.

Postgraduate Taught Care Leavers Bursary

Care leavers from the UK who have recently graduated and want to progress onto full-time postgraduate study may be eligible for a bursary worth up to £2,660 which is intended for assistance with the cost of their study.
