Engineer a high level career for yourself with this advanced course in Mechanical Engineering. While a graduate degree is a valuable foundation, the journey to the top of your career ladder requires more intensive skills. A post-graduate qualification not only gives you the knowledge and confidence to plan, manage and implement complex projects: it also tells prospective employees that you're serious about your role in the industry.

This course builds on your existing degree-level knowledge of engineering, delving more deeply into areas such design philosophy, the role of stress and strain in structural integrity, design methods and analysis, and the critical environmental impact appraisal of alternative engineering solutions.

This course will add to your existing knowledge to give you the advanced engineering skills demanded by employers. You'll graduate with the ability to critically appraise the environmental impact of alternative engineering solutions, develop a design infrastructure with reference to design systems and their management, and analyse stress in structures using finite element method.

You'll also be able to appraise the impact of current approaches to business and engineering data management, critically explore product development strategies, including concurrent engineering, critically evaluate a given research project and deliver the project proposal involving literature review, analyse management problems and synthesise solutions.

The full-time programme is based over three trimesters, and generally lasts for one year or one year and three months (depending on the intake trimester). The course will involve you in lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions and independent study.

The programme structure is currently under review and subject to approval. For more information please contact us.

Trimester 1

Applied Design, Sustainability and Environment, Design Methods

Trimester 2

Research Skills and project management, Computer Aided Engineering, Design Analysis

Trimester 3

To apply for this course, you'll need either an Honours Degree in a relevant engineering field (mechanical, mechatronic, automation, control) with a degree classification of at least 2:2, or an equivalent qualification or experience which demonstrates that you possess appropriate knowledge and skills at SCQF level 10. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6 TOEFL iBT® test: 75 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more.
