Requirements

You may apply to the University of Florida as a transfer student for your junior/senior year if you: • Earn an associate of arts degree with a minimum 2.0 GPA (as calculated by UF) or 60 transferable hours for students transferring from private institutions, four-year institutions or institutions outside of Florida. Vocational coursework is not accepted. • Follow an approved general education program of at least 36 semester hours. • Complete two years of sequential high school foreign language courses or 8-10 hours of sequential college-level foreign language courses (or documentation of an equivalent level of proficiency). OR Transfer admission consideration for students with AA degrees from non-Florida schools must meet all the above requirements, plus: • A transcript from each institution attended, regardless of length of attendance or credit earned. Additional transcripts are required as soon as they are available for any work completed after applying to UF. • A minimum C average, as computed by the university. Any student who has failed to maintain a 2.0 GPA at another institution after completing the AA degree is not eligible for admission. • Regardless of the average earned, courses completed at other institutions must parallel the curriculum at UF. Transfer admission consideration for students with 60 hours credit, but without an AA degree: • A minimum of 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of acceptable college courses (i.e., 60 transferable semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, or an AA degree from an in-state public community college, or 60 transferable semester credits of course work listed in the Florida Statewide Course Numbering System from a Florida nonpublic postsecondary institution.) • A minimum 2.0 GPA at each institution as computed by UF. • Transcripts verifying completion of the courses (or acceptable substitutes) required for admission by the college. An applicant lacking some prerequisites may be permitted to enroll and to complete these courses if all other requirements for admission are met and if recommended by the college; however, any 1000- to 2000-level courses taken to fulfill admission requirements will not reduce the number of credits required for a degree. • Applicants must have completed two sequential courses of foreign language in secondary school or 8-10 sequential semester hours at the postsecondary level, or document an equivalent level of proficiency.

Work Experience

No work experience is required.

Funding

Online students at the University of Florida are eligible for consideration for a wide range of federal, state and institutional aid as administered by the Office for Student Financial Affairs (SFA), which also administers a limited number of privately funded scholarships. These include:

  • Grants. Considered gift aid — no repayment required — and awarded to students showing the greatest financial need.
  • Scholarships. Considered gift aid, as they do not have to be repaid and do not require recipients to perform services.
  • Student Employment. Considered self-help aid, as students are offered aid in exchange for a service. The Student Employment Office assists enrolled students seeking part-time employment through various job programs.
  • Loans. Considered self-help aid as loans are a form of aid that must be repaid. UF primarily offers student loans through the Federal Direct Loan Program, but there are a number of other loan programs available at UF.
  • Non-SFA Administered Aid. Numerous aid programs are administered by entities outside of SFA including State of Florida aid programs, SFA Resource Center scholarships, academic scholarships and endowed scholarships.

Accreditation

The University of Florida must create the broadly diverse environment necessary to foster multi-cultural skills and perspectives in its teaching and research for its students to contribute and succeed in the world of the 21st century.

These three interlocking elements — teaching, research and scholarship, and service — span all the university's academic disciplines and represent the university's commitment to lead and serve the state of Florida, the nation and the world by pursuing and disseminating new knowledge while building upon the experiences of the past. The university aspires to advance by strengthening the human condition and improving the quality of life.
