Curriculum
This branch of study provides practical skills in dentistry, as well as theoretical knowledge in pathology, and the diagnosis and treatment of the most common oral diseases. Students begin to study dental disciplines from the second academic year. Dental courses make up 47 per cent of the 5-year academic programme.
The Lithuanian language is taught during the first 3 years.
Teaching Method
The teaching and learning process consists of lectures, seminars, practical sessions and self-studies. The structure of the curriculum is similar to that which is used in most European universities; therefore, multilevel study principles are implemented. Subjects are taught in blocks during the first academic year.
Evaluation of performance
Examinations are taken upon completion of each subject. The odontology study programme is completed by qualification examinations and a masters thesis defence.
Competences you gain
Graduates in odontology will have the ability to:
· To employ the newest scientific and achievements in the field of dentistry;
· examine and evaluate the status of patients mouth and surrounding tissues;
· make a diagnosis;
· treat different dental diseases and carry out their prevention;
· continuously improve professional skills of a dental physician;
· have knowledge on the symptoms of different dental diseases and the most effective measures in preventing and treating dental diseases.
After graduation
After successful completion of the programme and obtaining the diploma, students can work in personal health care institutions: primary health care centres, dental clinics and offices, public institutions, colleges and universities. Graduates may also consider undertaking further residency studies, leading to a qualification of a dental specialist, or study for a PhD
