Cosmology is positioned at the interface between Theoretical Physics and Observational Astronomy. The Leiden Institute of Physics offers this specialisation in collaboration with the also internationally well known Leiden Observatory. Similar to the Theoretical Physics specialisation, in-depth knowledge is required of undergraduate courses with theoretical and mathematical emphasis: quantum physics, electrodynamics, statistical physics, and complex analysis. Also prerequisite is the Leiden bachelor's course on Physics of Elementary Particles, or a clear equivalent. The bachelor's course Relativistic Electrodynamics is strongly advised. Graduates from this programme will be well placed to function in positions in industry, research or society.
