In this specialisation you will study the development of the history of the Jews as a minority group in society, with emphasis on the cultural and social aspects.

In this one-year programme you will be able to choose between specialist courses in four areas: Historiography, Judaism in the Greco-roman period, Mysticism and Modernity. In addition, you will have the opportunity to follow your personal interests and goals. The study of various other languages and cultures in Leiden has strengthened the study of Judaism and Jewish culture, opening up opportunities for approaches in combination with other disciplines and interdisciplinary methods. Partnerships with universities from Israel, Germany and the U.S. ensure a constant exchange of knowledge in the form of visiting lecturers in various disciplines.
