To provide the knowledge and skills required of a professional engineer to design control and signal processing systems for complex embedded systems. The course includes modules on advanced control theory and digital signal processing, and also covers the latest software techniques for implementing these technologies on a range of high-performance applications.

Teaching and Assessment Methods
Modules are taught using lectures and seminar sessions and are supported by a range of structured practical and laboratory work. Performance in modules is assessed by means of open and closed examination papers and a range of continuously assessed work. All MSc students are required to produce a dissertation including the results obtained in the individual project module.

Duration and mode of study

Course Modules
As well as completing an individual project, students will take the following courses:

* Matlab and CAD
* Individual Project
* Modelling and Classification of Data
* High-reliability Embedded Systems
* Robust Control
* Design of Discrete Systems
* Real-time Signal Processing
* Non-Linear Control
* Introduction to Biomedical Engineering

Entry RequirementsA first or good second class honours degree in a relevant subject or a qualification recognised by the University as equivalent.English Language RequirementsApplicants whose first language is not English, and who have not lived in a country where the first language is English for at least three years immediately before the start of their course, need to satisfy the University´s English language requirement. * From students who take IELTS (the British Council´s International English Language Testing System), we look for an overall score of 6.0 or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 6.5 or above for all other courses. * From students who take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), we look for 575/233/90* or above for courses in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy, and 600/250/100* for all other courses. (*Scores for paper-based/computer-based/internet-based versions of TOEFL) As well as the internationally-known IELTS and TOEFL tests, the University also accepts many other English language qualifications.The English Language Programme for International StudentsIf you do not yet meet our English requirements we can help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.
