Pursue your dream of becoming a world-class cellist with a nationally recognized program that develops technique, helps you network with other artists, and introduces you to career opportunities. Cello studies focus on the fundamental principles of all instrumental music performance and how the knowledge and application of these principles can lead to more effective and thoughtful practice and successful performance.
As well as gaining a solid theoretical foundation, you'll be encouraged to develop your own creativity and hone your entrepreneurial skills in the music industry — all of which will inspire you to reach your full potential as an artist. You can learn the cello as your primary instrument. Chamber music, orchestral performance and high-level instrumental performance form the core of the program. Cello Studies can be taught as a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, Master of Music or Doctor of Musical Arts in cello performance.
Structure of Cello-studies academic programs
As a Bachelor student, you'll focus on music history, music theory, musical improvisation, musical ensembles, and more. You'll also train your ear and improve your cello technique in private lessons. By the end of a bachelor’s degree in Cello, students should have developed an understanding of the specific techniques and skills that will enable them to realize their individual artistic visions and ambitions. In addition, students must have a comprehensive understanding of the stylistic, historical and aesthetic aspects of cello music, both generally and relevant to their specific field of interest.
The master's program includes instrumental and ensemble skills such as orchestral performance and chamber music. In your optional studies, you can deepen your skills as a string player by taking audition training or training to become a string conductor.
Entry requirements for Cello-studies applicants

It requires students to supplement their music studies with a prescribed number of courses in the Liberal Arts. The Bachelor of Music degree program normally requires 4 years to complete. In most cases, universities require GPAs, standardized test scores, or class rankings for entry to this program. However, universities carefully assess exceptional talent as a performer, and the potential to meet university’s standards.
The Master of Music degree program is an advanced course of study for musicians who hold the bachelor’s degree and who seek graduate musical training and classroom learning to prepare themselves more fully for careers as professional musicians.
