As a composition specialist, you will develop your individual compositional voice through various active compositional projects, along with studying contemporary music, orchestration, analysis, harmony and counterpoint. Over the course of eight semesters, while completing the college's core music program, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse community of student musicians, outstanding teachers, industry professionals and world-class guest artists.
A comprehensive study of the artistic, theoretical and practical aspects of musical composition is carried out in various forms, including individual training, lectures and self-help. Students will study within the traditional framework of musical composition, including form, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, notation and text tuning, along with studying aesthetics, modern media and music technologies. Opportunities for ensemble performance and interdisciplinary experience in the field of cinema, dance and theater are provided. Attention is paid to practical, professional aspects of creative music making, and the course is aimed at developing composers who are technically proficient in both traditional and modern composing practice.
The Composition program is aimed at developing: broad knowledge and appreciation of the musical repertoire and understanding of the main stylistic features of various musical genres focused on the modern ”classical" tradition; understanding of modern aesthetic problems and understanding of the relationship of music with other types of art; skills of creating original musical works demonstrating mastery of both traditional composing skills and modern musical techniques and approaches; high level of competence in practical aspects of composition: notation; the presentation of the score; the use of instrumental and vocal resources; orchestration and musical technologies; the ability to clearly and effectively communicate musical intentions to the performer; the ability to creatively develop musical materials through a comprehensive study of the principles of musical structure, melodic writing, harmonic and rhythmic invention, counterpoint, instrumental color and texture; the composer's personal voice and the ability to clearly convey an aesthetic idea to audiences; understanding professional realities and expectations from a career in the field of creative music making.

At the end of the course, you can apply for a diploma with honors in the fourth year. The Honours Year provides an intensive training regime allowing you to master your knowledge and pave the way for advanced postgraduate study options in the field of music.
You will develop skills, knowledge and understanding of practical, theoretical and conceptual aspects of music, expand your musical knowledge across a range of styles and repertoire, develop advanced critical thinking and creative problem solving through regular practical classes and theoretical research, participate in performing and academic activities, have opportunities for solo and ensemble performances, have access to a wide range of invaluable career experience in a local or international context.
