Participants in the Diversity Visa Lottery also cannot participate in the competition for the FLTA program. At the time of application and at the time of the competition, candidates must work as teachers of English or study at a higher educational institution in the last courses of the specialty "teacher of English" or a related specialty; in this case, the participant of the competition must receive a diploma no later than summer 2022. ATTENTION: selection preference will be given to candidates who have less than seven years of experience in teaching English. Good command of English. Language exam results must be at least 79-80 points for TOEFL iBT (Internet-based TOEFL), 6.0 points for IELTS. The age of candidates is not limited. For participants in the competition who previously received a J-1 visa, the time period from the date of return to Russia until the date of submission of documents for the competition must be at least two years. This requirement does not apply to J-1 visas, which do not have a two-year rule, such as the Work and Travel program. Since family members and relatives of FLTA participants are not provided with visa or financial support, candidates who are expecting a child cannot participate in the program if the child is planned to be born while in the US under the program (August 2022 - May-June 2023). Please be aware that under FLTA rules, family members (relatives, friends) cannot accompany the Fellow. Applicants for the FLTA program must be enthusiastic about teaching, have a genuine interest in teaching Russian language and culture to American students, and possess qualities such as maturity of judgment, integrity of character, and professionalism. Competitors must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and leadership qualities, have a penchant for creative work, be independent, but at the same time be able to work in a team, that is, build good relationships with students and faculty. An interest in sports, music, dance, theater, literature, poetry, cooking is encouraged. Candidates must be flexible and willing to learn new things. They should have an interest and opportunity to adapt to living in small towns or rural areas. In addition, participants must be prepared for the fact that in case of successful completion of the competition, according to the terms of the program, the participant will live in the same dormitory with the students.
