Description
This para-professional degree comprises two majors: Civil and Environmental. Subjects covered include soil mechanics, structural analysis and design, civil engineering materials, surveying, water engineering or environmental chemistry, ecology, chemical process technology, systems analysis and design. The program can include specialised electives from the University of Southern Queensland which is completed from UNE on a cross-institutional basis.
On completion of the degree, graduates are eligible to apply for Engineering Technologist membership of Engineers Australia. As well, they can articulate to a four-year engineering degree at the University of Southern Queensland (or other postgraduate awards).
Students can undertake their second and subsequent years of study either on a full-time internal or on a part-time external basis with an employer by way of an industry traineeship. The major completed will appear on the academic record and testamur.

Positions are available in local government , state government agencies, consultancies, mining sector, etc., working in water supply and wastewater treatment; road bridge and building design and construction; waste management; environmental control, planning and development; project management of environmental, local government, agricultural, major transport infrastructure projects, etc.; in the mining industry in infrastructure development, environmental control and rehabilitation works.

Course Content
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
- (a) three years as a full-time candidate;
- (b) up to ten years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 144 credit points with not more than 60 credit points at 100-level and at least 36 credit points at 300-level and 12 credit points at 400-level.
Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements including one approved major shall be award the Bachelor of Engineering Technology.
Exit Pathways
Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Diploma in in The Sciences on completion of 48 credit points.
Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Advanced Diploma in The Sciences on completion of 72 credit points.

Assumed knowledge is Mathematics and a science subject.
For students without the recommended background knowledge, the Faculty offers Foundation units in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. It is strongly recommended that these units be completed in preparation for university study in mathematics, chemistry and physics, if these units have not been studied at the appropriate HSC level.
