Course Content

The mental health programme prepares nurses to meet the unique and individual needs of clients and carers from childhood to old age.

Students gain an understanding of the complex and fascinating field of mental health and the management of mental health loss. The programme provides students with the ability to assess, manage and treat mental health clients and their carers within a multidisciplinary team.

The practice placements reflect the nature and variety of hospital and community settings for people with a mental health condition.

The nursing curriculum is currently under review, and is due to be approved during 2011.

Practice placements are provided in Tayside and Fife and students are allocated the majority of their placements in the vicinity of their term-time address.

It will be necessary for some clinical experience to be gained in placements further afield in order to provide students with exposure to a rich and diverse clinical experience.
