Description

Geography covers a wide span of environmental subjects, from the spatial manifestations of social, economic and political actions to the environments and landforms created by the Earth's natural processes. Human geography encompasses the world of human beings, including social, political and economic systems and built environments. This programme will give you a core of knowledge and understanding in these areas.

This will be underpinned by an awareness of the implications for social justice, sustainability and ethical implications of human exploitation of the natural environment. Fieldwork is an essential part of the programme, with trips funded by the School. Destinations include the New Forest, the Lake District and south-east Spain. As a member of the Erasmus exchange scheme, we have collaborative arrangements with universities in the Netherlands, Italy and France.

This will give you the opportunity to study abroad for a period of time. You will undertake a dissertation in your final year. This will enable you to study a topic of particular interest in considerable depth. If you successfully complete at least 36 weeks of the optional work placement, you will be awarded the Diploma of Industrial Study.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To explore the social and cultural worlds of human beings
  • To examine how people interact and engage with urban and rural environments
  • To explore the importance of sustainability and globalisation in contemporary society.
