Here at the Edinburgh Law School we pride ourselves on the quality and creativity of the teaching and course subject matter which we offer on the IT law programme.

The programme aims to promote advanced knowledge and understanding of information technology law, in its broadest sense, within international, European and domestic settings.

Programme overview
This programme explores the wealth of legal issues associated with computerisation and the Internet, a key theme being the evolution - and increasing convergence of - information and communications technologies.

The programme also investigates the growing value attached to information and will enable you to contribute to many current areas of debate in information technology law.

The programme covers:

* regulatory approaches to information technology
* jurisdiction
* content liability
* privacy and data protection
* intellectual property
* standards and competition
* cybercrime
* e-commerce
* the digital divide
* the use of new technologies in investigation and evidence, and in dispute adjudication

By the end of your studies you should emerge with an understanding of information technology law not just in its legal but also its social, ethical, cultural and commercial contexts.

We are pleased to announce that we have added six new modules to our already wide range of Masters modules for 2012/13.

The LLM in Information Technology Law requires that you complete a total of six modules (120 credit points), four of which must be core modules, and complete a dissertation (60 credit points) over your chosen period of study. Please note the available choice of modules in any given year may change.

LLM Modules 2013/14
You must complete the four core Information Technology Law modules over your chosen period of study:

* Information Technology Law (core module)
* Information: Control and Power (core module)
* Communications Law (new core module)
* eCommerce Law (new core module) - module information will be available towards the end of March 2013

To join one of our LLM programmes in law by online distance learning, you will generally need to have completed an undergraduate degree programme to a very high standard.Your first degree does not have to be in the subject of Law, but it must be from a recognised higher education institution.Other qualifications and professional experience will also be considered as part of your application.If your first language is not English, you will need to provide evidence of your competence in written and spoken English.Applicants with a law degreeIf your first degree is in a legal subject you will need an 'excellent' award (equivalent to first class honours in the UK) or 'very good' award (equivalent to an upper second class honours in the UK).Applicants with degrees in a subject other than lawIf your first degree is in a subject other than law you will need an 'excellent' award (equivalent to first class honours in the UK) or 'very good' award (equivalent to an upper second class honours in the UK) in an area appropriate to the LLM programme you are interested in. These may include: * Medicine and other medical practices * Chemistry, biology or physics related sciences * Design, media, marketing, journalism and other creative industry related subject areas * Economics, accountancy and financial industry based subjects * Computing science and other IT-related qualifications * Social sciences and humanities based subject areas such as social policy or psychology * Information management.Please note that this list is not exhaustive and every application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.Applicants with degrees from a country other than the UKIf your first degree is from a country other than the UK you must have at least one degree or other recognised qualification which has been completed over a minimum of three years to an "excellent" or "very good" standard.Please contact us if you have any questions about whether your degree meets our entry requirements.Other qualifications and professional experienceYou are eligible to apply for our LLM programmes if you have a postgraduate qualification, such as an MA, an MSc, an MBA or a PhD.Professional experience in appropriate areas is also considered as part of an application, although candidates, including qualified lawyers, will in almost every instance be expected to have reached the required academic levels.English language requirementsIf your first language is not English, you will need to provide documentary evidence of competence in both written and spoken English.English language testsA number of tests are available and accepted by the University as evidence of competence in English. One of these is the IELTS English Language Test. At present, entry onto our postgraduate programmes in Law requires a minimum IELTS aggregate score of 7.0, with at least 6.5 scored in each section.Tests must have been successfully completed no earlier than two years before the start date of the programme for which candidates are seeking admission. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 7 CAE score: (read more) Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is part of the Cambridge English suite and is targeted at a high level (IETLS 6.5-8.0). It is an international English language exam set at the right level for academic and professional success. Developed by Cambridge English Language Assessment - part of the University of Cambridge - it helps you stand out from the crowd as a high achiever. 80 (Grade A) TOEFL iBT® test: 100 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. Edinburgh Global Online Distance Learning Master's Scholarships
The University of Edinburgh will offer six Master's scholarships for eligible distance learning Master's programmes offered by the University, these include our LLM programmes by online distance learning:

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.
