The Master in Aerospace Engineering is a unique Master in the French Speaking Community of Belgium. Since aeronautics and space are, in essence, fields where high performance is a must, the University of Liège wants to train engineers who master advanced techniques, allowing them to design high-tech products. The programme emphasises particularly mechanical aspects of aerospace components and systems, numerical modelling and virtual prototyping.
Master with Research Focus
The graduate in Research Focus has a solid grounding allowing him to integrate a research & development or education of 3rd cycle (PhD/Doctorate). He gained the highest level of technical skills through advanced course selection pointed in various fields, such as aerospace structures, aerodynamics, turbomachinery, astrodynamics, space experiments, numerical modelling and optimization.
Master with a Professional Focus in Management
The graduate with a Professional Focus in Management has acquired, in addition to his technical background and methodology, a solid grounding in finance, strategy, marketing, human resource management, organisation, leadership, production management and supply chain. He knows the company world and is able to analyze thoroughly its internal organisation, to make a diagnosis and establish a full business plan.
The Professional Focus in Management can be followed during the last year of Engineering studies. The programme is unique in the French Speaking Community of Belgium and organised in partnership with the HEC-ULg management school. The training is based on a participatory pedagogy including extended stays in business.
Key Learning Outcomes
At the end of his studies, the Aerospace Engineer has acquired the following skills:
* He has a solid technical background in aeronautics and/or space thanks to the lectures received in the areas of propulsion and turbomachinery, aerodynamics, theoretical and experimental flight mechanics, aerospace structures under extreme loading, space instrumentation, astrodynamics and launchers ;
* He masters computer-aided design tools and has an extensive knowledge of various aspects of modelling and simulation of aerospace components (i.e., solids, fluids and materials) ;
* He understands that the design of an aircraft, a turbomachine and a satellite inherently relies on many engineering disciplines. Thanks to the realization of an integrated project involving various courses of the first Master, he is able to find an appropriate compromise between design constraints from different disciplines, which may be conflicting ;
* He is familiar with real engineering projects since he can choose to perform a long term industrial training and he can get involved in practical design projects of a drone or of a nanosatellite ;
* He has a large abstraction capacity which allows him to solve new problems in an independent and autonomous way. His training and his master thesis have also introduced him to a number of research-oriented problems ;
* He is initiated to teamwork thanks to the completion of group assignments that come along with many courses of the Master. He is also able to communicate effectively and concisely the results of his work.
