The International Master in Affective Neuroscience is a postgraduate research master on affective disorders and a joint degree of the universities of Maastricht and Florence. The programme is intended for graduates in medicine, psychology or behavioural sciences, and focuses on the latest developments in the field of anxiety, depression and the neuroscience of emotions. 

The programme is a combination of four main components: the residential courses, the research project, the dissertation and the portfolio, for a total of 60 ECTS. The programme is designed as a part-time Residential courses 
The Summer Courses and the Seminars are intensive sessions of one week, that bring the faculty and the students together in a productive and informal atmosphere.
Research 
The central part of the programme is the individual research project under supervision of a member of the Board.
Dissertation
The core component of the Master's dissertation is formed by the research paper. A key requirement for graduation is that the research paper must be published in a peer reviewed journal.
Portfolio
Throughout the programme the students must keep a portfolio of their scientific output.curriculum to be taken in two years, but can be taken in a flexible order to suit individual circumstances.

Admission criteria
The Master Program is open to graduates with an MSc or MD degree in psychology, neuroscience,behavioural sciences, psychiatry, medicine or a related discipline.
Applicants with a different education history are admitted on an individual basis, after an assessment of the extent of their knowledge to ensure that the basic level necessary for the Summer Courses is present. The Executive Director may decide to hold a telephone interview with the candidate for this purpose.
Applicants from outside the EU-EER, who are non-native speakers of English and do not have an academic degree for aprogramme that was taught in English, need to submit proof of obtaining a sufficient score on a recognised international test of English language. The minimum score that will be accepted is 6.0 for the IELTS, and for the TOEFL 497 (paper-based), 170 (computer based) or 60 (internet based).

You will receive a confirmation of receipt within two weeks. 

For the Course on Fear, Anxiety, Obsessions & Trauma one Spinoza Grants of €1000 is offered by the European Accreditation Committee in CNS (EACIC). Four stipends of €750 each will be awarded by the FENS and IBRO-PERC. The grant and stipends consist of a reduction on the tuition fee for a maximum of the stated amount.

Criteria
The grants are intended for highly motivated young scientists with limited resources, who receive no other financial support. To be eligible you must meet these criteria:

  • You are a young scientist, i.e. graduated from your first MSc or MD no more than 5 years before the start of the academic year.
  • you do not receive financial support from third parties (for example employer or sponsor) for the tuition fee.
  • you are currently not residing or studying in the Netherlands and Italy (only for the FENS and IBRO-PERC stipend
