The Master of Arts (Applied Linguistics) programme provides a broad-based course of study in the field of applied linguistics, mainly within the fields of language education and language studies, balancing theoretical knowledge with practical application. It is designed primarily for English language teaching professionals who wish to strengthen their academic qualifications for career advancement, but it is also suitable for people with a keen interest in language-related issues.
This programme helps you to develop a strong foundation in theories of linguistics and language learning by providing you with opportunities to critically review current research in applied linguistics. You will also acquire skills for conducting language pedagogy research and examining language-related issues in various contexts, skills which will undoubtedly contribute towards your overall professional development as language educators and researchers. Through this programme, you will be exposed to many new ideas and skills which you can apply to your specific educational and work contexts, and gain a better understanding of various language-related issues and concerns in Singapore and around the world. Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, either with English Language Studies, Linguistics or in a relevant field (with evidence of adequate knowledge in language studies).
- Teaching qualifications and teaching experience, while preferred, are not required for admission.
- TOEFL Minimum score of 580 (for paper and pencil examination) or 237 (for computer-based test) or 92 (for internet-based).
- IELTS Minimum score of 6.5
- Hardcopy printout of the Application Form, signed at the Affirmation Section and affixed a Passport-sized photograph on the Application Form
- Photocopy of your National Registration Identity Card (NRIC)(front and back). If you do not have an NRIC, please provide a copy of your passport information page(s)(containing the passport number, name, etc.)
- Completed Photo Form
- Completed Coursework Supplementary Form
- Photocopy of Degree Scrolls / Certificates (Master’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, etc.)

A transcript of detailed academic results is required from each university or college attended. The transcript results should show marks (wherever possible) and grades obtained in each module. If the transcript is in a language other than English, please provide an official English translation as well and the modules in the translation should be listed in the same order as that of the original transcript
