This course provides the background for those entering the regional and urban planning livelihood. It has certification from the Planning Institute of Australia. The identifying feature of this program may be using interdisciplinary expertise and methods in treating ecological, social and design issues regarding the community. It's now widely recognized that successful human settlements needs to be suitably planned and a range of statutory and non-statutory controls exist at all levels of government to defend the public interest from the evolution procedure. The engagement of public and community groups from the preparation and implementation of plans would be currently considered imperative to successful development impacts.

The course is recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia as fulfilling the educational requirements for membership of the Institute.
