The Yale Baltic Studies Program is an interdisciplinary forum for the study of the Baltic Sea region, with an emphasis on the lands that comprise contemporary Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The program sponsors workshops, symposia, and lectures, and serves as a resource for and liaison among students and scholars whose work involves the Baltic region.

 

The Fellow will be expected to be in residence in New Haven, to participate in the activities of the Yale Baltic Studies Program, and to make at least one public presentation on campus during the period of the fellowship. 

The Joseph P. Kazickas Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Yale. Applications will be accepted from individuals in the following fields: law, economics, business and finance, environmental policy, political science, international relations, and history. 
The The Juris Padegs Research Fellowship at Yale for citizens of Estonia or Latvia provides for one individual from either Estonia or Latvia to conduct research at Yale in any field in the humanities or social sciences . Applicants can be either a Ph.D. candidate or a post-doctoral researcher. 

 

Yale University's Program in Baltic Studies invites applications for a research fellowship of variable duration (four to nine months during the 2013-14 academic year) in any field in the humanities or social sciences. Applicants may be pre- or post-doctoral, i.e., either a Ph.D. candidate or a post-doctoral scholar; applicants must be studying or working in a university or research institution in Estonia or Latvia. 

Applicants who apply as post-doctoral fellows should have completed their Ph.D. before September 2013. After completion of the fellowship the recipient will be expected to return to his or her home country for a period of at least two years.

Application Material Required:

All application materials must be submitted in English.

  • Cover letter, including proposed duration of the fellowship (between four and nine months), indicating clearly what months of the year and the rationale for the proposed period.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Research statement (no more than 1000 words)
  • Two reference letters, one from the applicant's academic supervisor and one from an additional faculty member or appropriate administrator at the university or institute at which the applicant is affiliated.

The reference letters should address the applicant's research and the broader significance of this research for higher education and research in the applicant's home country. These letters are to be submitted by the reference writers through the Academic Jobs Online site.

Fee Waiver Program

Eligibility - in order to request a fee waiver you must

  • Be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident (Non-U.S. citizens are not eligible to apply for a fee waiver).
  • Be a participant in certain fellowship programs or recipient of certain fellowship funds.
  • Have attended a specified recruitment event of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences or one of the programs sponsoring such an event and have a pre-coded Fee Waiver Request form.
  • Be applying as an applicant with demonstrated financial hardship.

The stipend will be based on the academic status of the Fellow and for 2013-2014 is expected to range between approximately $2,320 and $3,250 per month, plus fringe benefits such as health insurance.

The application fee for applicants is US $100.
