The one-year Masters of Research (MRes) degree is an innovative route to starting out on a research career and every year about 20 students enrol on our MRes degree. Students taking the MRes are provided with the opportunity to experience research projects over a broad range of disciplines and laboratory environments. The programme comprises: two laboratory-based research projects, a tutorial and workshop module, research seminars, 'Experimental Design and Statistics' unit, and training in personal and transferable skills. This programme involves rotations in laboratories throughout the Faculty of Life Sciences.

Where better to study than in the Faculty of Life Sciences - one of the largest and most successful unified research and teaching organisations of its kind in Europe. Our MRes degree allows students to gain research experience and professional skills, sometimes in a different area to their first degree, before deciding on a future career in industry or academic research.

The MRes course allows students to:

* Enhance their research skills and gain confidence in their research abilities
* Improve their chances of finding a PhD or starting a career in industry
* Explore which research area they wish to choose for a PhD
* Gain personal fulfilment and a sense of achievement
