Biology plays a dominant role in our rapidly changing world. Biologists probe the basic units of life - cells - to understand how they work, how they age, and why they may change to produce cancers. Biologists are unlocking the DNA codes of all organisms and developing new tools for DNA manipulation and analysis with many uses from police applications of forensic science to the diagnosis of disease and the development of gene therapies. The Biology program at Carleton features a substantial laboratory component and extensive opportunities for hands-on lab work so you will develop essential research and technical skills. Field trips are also an integral part of many courses. Students in the BSc (Honours) program in Biology may choose to specialize in one of four concentrations: Physiology; Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour; Molecular and Cellular Biology; and Health Science.
