This programme, delivered online via the university's virtual learning environment (VLE) system, is intended primarily as a mechanism for achieving continuing professional development within biomedical science and those working in related professions.
It consists of a number of specific courses proposed by professional practitioners, and is focused towards the specific needs of the workplace.
The project is normally carried out where the student works, so benefits the workplace as well as contributing towards the overall award of the Master's degree. The programme can only be taken part-time. MSc Biomedical Sciences (Online) is intended to address a rising staff development demand from workplaces, in line with various policy decisions at a number of levels, in particular that of the Lifelong Learning Framework for the NHS.
The design of the programme has been informed directly from senior members of the profession, from conferences and from students. The programme facilitates engagement of employees in appropriate continuing professional development, the eventual award of credit being an indicator of individual achievement and learning, as well as personal motivation and commitment to their profession.
Other courses may be added if there is sufficient demand from workplaces. Students may take individual option courses as continuing professional development, subject to payment of a fee.
The aims of the programme are:
* To provide an appropriate knowledge base in specialised areas of Biomedical Science, with the intention of building on individuals skills and knowledge base obtained at undergraduate level or its equivalent and in the workplace
* To provide part of the lifelong learning that plays an essential role in biomedical science generally
* To provide continuing professional development in selected areas within that field of endeavour.

Students are required to study the following compulsory courses.
* Project (MSc Biomedical Sci) (60 credits)
Applicants should normally have:A degree in biomedical science or equivalent, normally at 2.1 or above, together with relevant working experienceOR appropriate qualifications and experience of biomedical science (this would usually be within the NHS). Applicants are usually expected to be registered practitioners. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 CAE score: (read more) Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is part of the Cambridge English suite and is targeted at a high level (IETLS 6.5-8.0). It is an international English language exam set at the right level for academic and professional success. Developed by Cambridge English Language Assessment - part of the University of Cambridge - it helps you stand out from the crowd as a high achiever. 60 (Grade C) IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. We are developing stents (tiny artificial tubes for keeping open damaged arteries) that can deliver drugs more effectively into the bloodstream.
A collaboration between the university and a UK engineering company has produced a bomb disposal robot that's lighter and easier to carry into the field.
Research thats inspiring
The university's Natural Resources Institute works across the world to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. Its research helps meet challenges such as pests and diseases and brings new technology and expertise to farmers in developing countries.
Glittering prizes
Our students regularly win awards; recent prizewinners include the recipient of a national tourism prize and a Student Midwife of the Year, while an innovative business idea from a University of Greenwich law student recently won him a trip to the Hong Kong office of law firm Eversheds.
These success stories reflect our long history of student achievement. The pinnacle of this is perhaps Nobel Prize winner Professor Charles Kao, 'Godfather of Broadband', who is one of our alumni.
