Civil Engineering involves the use of scientific and technological principles to the construction and design of centers infrastructure to the welfare of their community. It is focused on such projects as railways, harbours and docks, road systems, bridges, water supply and wastewater treatment, dams, tunnels and underground construction, energy jobs, offshore structures and commercial and industrial buildings. Many engineering projects require a close working relationship with other classes - other types of engineers, architects, planners and environmental scientists. More comprehensive knowledge of mining technologies can allow Civil pupils to acquire a qualification that extends their expertise in to the mining field and let them work from the mining industry.

The civil engineering aspects of this course have been accorded full recognition by Engineers Australia and exempt graduates from all academic requirements for corporate membership of Engineers Australia. To be eligible for a corporate membership of Engineers Australia a graduate additionally takes a minimum of 4 years approved experience following the award of the Bachelor of Engineering level. This course includes units recognised by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and several overseas associations. Graduates, after a set period of time in industry, may affect the Department of Minerals and Energy Western Australia, for a certification as a manger of open cast mines.
