Description
Communication is a hallmark of the 21st century. In business, government, civil society, and personal relationships we are continually called upon to be competent communicators, foster collaborative and civil discourse, cope with conflict, manage our health-related communication, elicit and share information, solicit and use input in decisions, and make clear and persuasive presentations of ideas and concerns. Additionally, the capacities and challenges of 21st century communication often involve mastery of mediated forms of communication.
Coursework in the department is also useful for students whose primary interests are in such fields as Political Science, Computer Science, Management, Psychology, English, Journalism, or Sociology. The communication major requires students begin at the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and then complete a separate application process for admission to the School of Communication and Information and the communication major.
Students can apply for the M.C.I.S. program in their junior or senior year as a communications major. If accepted then you would plan a course of study that would enable you to take up to four M.C.I.S. courses and count them towards your undergraduate major requirements. Once you fill your undergraduate requirements you would graduate with your bachelor's degree. You can then complete your master's degree within a few semesters (of full-time study) or at your own pace as you work full-time. You can complete the M.C.I.S. degree in evenings.Detailed Course Facts
