The press industries of the 21st century are a field of accelerated change that produces local/global cultural and philosophical effects. All aspects of lifestyle, including workplaces, are influenced by networking, regarding both broad application and functionality. Part of this change is that the increasing focus on the reach and power of social networking. This class will provide students with complex, transferable networking and communicating skills. Students will appreciate the breadth and particulars of websites, and that it includes radio, television, print, the Internet, mobile technologies, moviesand advertising, public relations, music, media research and networking policy. Legitimate learning opportunities such as industry placements and projects match the theoretical class content and also present students the opportunity to apply their understanding and skills. Students will comprehend the way the media works, its influences on society, and also the topics which shape public debate and also concerns about the websites. Students will understand the practicalities of their media industry, including the jobs which exist and those which will become a portion of their media landscape in the not too distant future.
