The course has been leading the way for fifteen years within the world renowned Media School, and is closely partnered with Centre for Excellence in Media Practice as well as leading industry partners such as Adobe.
Our world-class technical production and research facilities include two dedicated Programme Labs, the Experimental Media Lab, Open Access Media Labs within the Media School, hardware equipment such as tablets, mobile phones, Kinect sensors and Programme specific audio/ visual equipment. Our state-of-the-art facilities are complemented by our staff recognised in their own areas of Interactive Media, Design and Research who work alongside world leading external industry speakers brought in across the Media School.
What will I study?
Through designing, directing and developing digital technology and media across a range of emerging platforms, you will enjoy the challenge of working at the cutting edge of advanced digital media production environments
You will gain a solid grounding of key principles, ideas and the theory of design, technology and contexts of digital media, be it for the web, mobile devices, games, gallery or museum
You will combine digital design, coding and creative software skills with animation, writing, sound and video. You will be designing for online media and advertising, social media applications, advanced online games, physical media installations for exhibitions and mobile apps
You will also be exposed to new and emerging innovations in digital media technologies and be able to follow emerging trends and formats, especially within the final year projects and dissertation.

Course Content
Throughout the programme, you create dynamic interactive media artefacts such as mobile phone applications, 3D games and websites. These are built by utilising coding languages such as HTML 5, CSS3, Javascript, JQuery Mobile as well as software packages such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, PhoneGap, Final Cut Pro and Unity 3D. However, applicants do not necessarily have to have any programming skills before starting the course.

Following in the steps of NCCA graduate Andy Lockley who won an Oscar in 2011 for his visual effects work on the film Inception, over 80 BU graduates were involved in four out of the five animated films nominated for the Visual Effects & Animation Oscar in 2012; 2013 saw NCCA graduates celebrate Oscar and BAFTA success with their work on the Life of Pi, The Hobbit, Snow White and the Huntsman, Les Miserables and Skyfall.
10. We are the first university to have achieved a "commended" judgement for the quality of student learning opportunities from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the highest award possible. The QAA look at many areas of how an institution supports students, including the quality of teaching students receive, academic support, the resources available to students including the library and IT facilities, and the general support they receive.
