Description

This degree, which is nationally recognised as one of the major qualifications for work in this field, can be studied as a generic, practice or business management route.Students explore notions of childhood and practice within a multi-disciplinary context,including education, health and psychology. Each route provides opportunities to understand childrens experiences in diverse settings.

A unique feature of this course is the strong connection made between generic theory and professional work-based practice, characterised by placement opportunities. From Year 2 students can select a more specialised route reflecting their career aspirations and have the chance to study abroad.The practice route is recognised by the Teaching Agency and OfSTED as providing a licence to practice.

Assessment details

Assessment uses a variety of methods including: essays, group and individual presentations, role play, reports, examinations, research project, dissertation.

Students are offered opportunities for individual and small group tutorials to support assessment, learning needs and pastoral issues. As well as this, throughout the year, there are various enrichment weeks covering aspects such as employability, study skills and work related skill development.

Additional Requirements

All candidates must have evidence of study at level 3 or equivalent within the 3 years prior to application and must provide an academic reference.

Funding

Student Support Package

At Manchester Metropolitan University, we offer a Student Support Package worth £4,000 for UK students from households with an income of up to £25,000. This non-repayable package can be taken for accommodation fees, if you are staying in an MMU Halls of Residence or we have arranged your contract with Victoria Hall or it can be loaded onto your metcard to spend on food and other services on campus (see below). We also offer an Academic Achievement Bursary for students who do particularly well in their exams and while they study at MMU.

For some healthcare professional courses such as Adult Nursing and Social Work, you may be eligible for an NHS bursary. You apply for this bursary separately, and will be invited to make your application by the NHS once you are holding an offer of a place on a relevant course. We do all we can to ensure you have the support you need while you study with us. If you do run into financial difficulty, you may be entitled to some additional support through the Access to Learning Fund. The fund is a limited amount of money that the university will either grant or loan to a student depending on their needs and situation. In order to qualify, you will have to meet a number of criteria, provide evidence and complete an application.
