At the University of Minnesota, Morris, the economics curriculum is designed to:

• provide students with a basic understanding of the nature and functioning of the economic system;

Economics can be combined with many other majors or minors. The economics curriculum is designed to ensure that students:

• understand the nature and functioning of the market system;
• are able to define criteria for assessing efficiency in the provision of goods and services;
• investigate and assess the operation of economic institutions;
• are able to evaluate alternative policies intended to enhance economic outcomes;
• develop competence in quantitative methods and computing methods;
• are able to conceptualize and analyze problems using the tools of economic theory, and communicate the results;
• are competent in oral and written communication;
• are adequately prepared for graduate or professional school.

To apply, your high school transcript should include the following:

• Four (4) years of English;
• Four (4) years of math including one year each of elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, and geometry;
• Three (3) years of science with one year each of biological and physical science;
• Three (3) years of social studies, including United States history;*
• Two (2) years of a single second language.*
