This course provides the bases for a professional technology career in the petroleum and gas market, both in Australia and internationally. As well as providing center mechanical and chemical technology knowledge, the class offers specialist knowledge in design, reservoir and oil production engineering. The program is targeted on the development of knowledge and techniques related to professional engineering training and also along side a solid theoretical base, includes strong elements of practical problem solving, team work and job development. Because of this, pupils will obtain strong analytical abilities, and also have the capability to lead complex projects as well as having multiple technical and transferable skill competencies. The course gives a solid basis in mechanisms, mathematics, and also the fundamentals of engineering design in the first two years of study, along with core areas of engineering science involving chemistry and materials science, fluid mechanics, process systems and thermodynamics. From the last two years of study, a range of specialist petroleum technology issues are covered to prepare students to enter their chosen profession with relevant knowledge and skills. The first year of this course contains a pair of eight units that are common across all engineering honours courses. This permits students the chance to develop a better comprehension of the various engineering areas on offer and also the flexibility, when desired, to change into some other technology discipline/course without penalty after the first period of study.
