Why study BEng Design Engineering at Middlesex?
Our degree produces confident designers and the national awards won by our students demonstrate the quality of their work (find out more in the Student Work tab above). You will explore the design and implementation of digital systems and become proficient in using the latest industry software. You will create new designs and also learn to improve the performance and efficiency of existing products. To support career success, you will build a professional portfolio of work, take part in a regular guest lecture series by industry professionals, and carry out exciting work placements in companies and organisations across London.
Our suite of Design Engineering courses allow you to study a common first year and then either continue on the pure Design Engineering course, or choose to focus on one of the following pathways:

If you apply for our four- year MEng Design Engineering course you will gain a masters qualification as soon as you successfully complete your undergraduate degree and if you apply in Year 1 you can receive funding to cover your postgraduate course fees
If you decide to take up one of the pathway routes, you still have the option of changing back to the standard Design Engineering degree at the end of your second year

What will you study?
Throughout your studies you will build the confidence to develop and implement modern technologies relevant to electronic products and systems, and learn to communicate ideas effectively. Active participation in industry sponsored live projects will encourage you to gain leadership qualities, management skills and confidence in your work, both on individual and group projects.
The fourth MEng (postgraduate) year allows you to specialise your studies further by working on a team project in your chosen specialism. You will also broaden your design engineering knowledge by choosing two optional modules.

take an IELTS test.Requirements
We normally consider applicants who already have 280 credits, including one science and one numerate subject which is compatible with our modules. GCSE English and Maths with a minimum of Grade C are required. Your suitability for credit transfer onto one of our courses will be assessed on an individual basis. Please refer to the credit transfer webpage for further information.
International entry requirements

English language requirements
You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in all four components).
Middlesex also offers an (Pre-Sessional) that ranges from 5-17 weeks depending on your level of English. Successful completion of this course would meet English language entry requirements.
Entry into year two or three (transfer students)
If you have achieved a qualification such as a foundation degree or HND, or have gained credit at another university, you may be able to enter a Middlesex course in year two or three.
