Managing the environment and safeguarding it for generations to come has become a key concern of our time. Human intervention is largely behind issues such as deforestation, pollution, global warming and species extinction. But human intervention is also the key to preserving the environment.
While firmly based in the scientific aspects of the environment, this course also focuses on social science and socioeconomic issues relating to environmental matters. This way, you’ll become highly knowledgeable about how individuals, societies and governments can best navigate a path towards a healthy environment and, in turn, towards economic and social prosperity.

General requirements
- Minimum number of credit points for the degree 69 ECTS
- Minimum number of credit points at 200 level or above 39 ECTS
- Minimum number of credit points at 300 level or above 18 ECTS
- Completion of a qualifying major for the Bachelor of Environment
- Completion of a designated People unit
- Completion of a designated Planet unit
- Completion of a designated PACE unit
To be eligible to apply to Macquarie University for an undergraduate program, you must have one of the following:
- A recognised secondary (high school) qualification
- A recognised University Foundation course
- A recognised two or three year Diploma
- At least one year of a university degree from a recognised institution
Assumed knowledge
Recommended: HSC Biology, HSC Geography and HSC Earth and Environmental Science; or international equivalents.
English language requirements
IELTS of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band, or equivalent
All applicants for undergraduate or postgraduate coursework studies at Macquarie University are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English.
You may satisfy the English language requirements if you have completed:
- senior secondary studies equivalent to the NSW HSC
- one year of Australian or comparable tertiary study in a country of qualification
