Environmental engineers design and implement pollution prevention and treatment technologies to minimize the impact of human activity on the environment. The work of environmental engineers is broad and can include designing water and wastewater treatment plants, assessing the environmental risks of developing contaminated sites, and developing innovative approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to meet CanadaпПХs Kyoto commitments. Other possibilities include preparing environmental regulations and providing input for environmental impact assessment hearings.Carleton UniversityпПХs Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Environmental Engineering is one of only a few in Canada. Our program includes a modified common engineering core program, a group of courses specific to environmental engineering, additional courses in biology and chemistry, and other complementary courses from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. An emphasis is placed on problem-solving and hands-on laboratory work.
