The Master of European-American Studies at the University of Regensburg is an international, interdisciplinary, four-semester programme that provides more specialised study of European-American relations in the past and present, as well as in a wide variety of contexts. Topics in fields of research such as political science, history, economy, literature, culture and language are analysed from a comparative, transnational perspective. This MA programme includes an internship and focuses on a scholarly understanding of, and research expertise in, the field of European-American relations.

Structure:
  • Maximum four semesters/120 credit points in five modules (including MA thesis)
  • Ten courses, MA thesis, and practical or project component
  • Interdisciplinary and/or international component through internships

This MA programme includes an internship and focuses on a scholarly understanding of, and research expertise in, the field of European-American relations.

MA thesis

Course objectives

In-depth knowledge of European-American relations in the past and present and in various contexts including politics, history, literature, culture and language; the development of advanced academic and research skills, which may lead to further PhD work, if desired

Language requirements

Applicants must demonstrate an excellent command of the English language at level C1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Please note that, although there is no formal requirement of a specific German language certificate, it would be of advantage if you had some basic knowledge of German in order to fully participate in the broad spectrum of relevant course offerings across the various departments and disciplines.

You will need a minimum of about 670 EUR per month (including rent, food, clothing, insurance, books, and study materials).

Job opportunities

Students from EU member states and Switzerland do not need a work permit. Students from non-EU states who are registered at a German university are allowed to work 120 days per year.
Please note that almost all employers require good German language skills.

Arrival support

The International Office offers the free orientation programme "Startklar", which supports incoming students with organisational matters such as bank accounts, health insurance, university enrolment, and the city's foreigners' registration office. The programme is also a first social meeting point and conveys a feeling of being welcome to the students.

Services and support for international students

The International Office is the central meeting point for international students seeking support. During the semester, the International Coffee Hour (twice a week) offers opportunities to meet other international and German students. Furthermore, the semester programme of the International Office invites international students to participate in trips and social activities.

Accommodation

The International Office will try to assist students in finding a room in a student dormitory or on the private market. The price for a room in a student dormitory ranges from 200 to 270 EUR per month.
