Facility Management has undergone some considerable changes during the last few years. It is increasingly becoming a part of corporate strategy. The facility manager is transforming into a strategic advisor to corporate management. The initial preoccupation with tasks and functions is giving way to an emphasis on process management and resource integration. Both Facility Management and Real Estate Management act within internal spheres of action in the organization. They deal with the same issues of processes, property and people. Leadership competencies
The foundation of the Masters programme consists of four facility management and real estate management specific competences, and an additional specific academic competence:
* Trends and Strategy: methodically recognizing developments and trends in the external sector and integrating them into the Facility and Real Estate Management strategy
* Core business and Leadership: analysing primary processes and developing Facility Management and Real Estate Management strategies in an initiating and creative way, showing entrepreneurial leadership
* FM process, change and client: establishing, commanding and improving Facility Management and Real Estate Management processes and organizational processes to develop processes of change in a client-oriented and efficient way
* Real Estate portfolio and added value: analysing the building portfolio aspects in the context of Facility and Real Estate Management processes and the Facility Management and Real Estate Management company environment as well as the companys financial situation in order to enhance the added value of the facilities
* Master competence: judging and reflecting based on incomplete information within a research context and being able to underpin knowledge and rationale to specialist and non- specialist

After successful completion of the programme, students will be issued a degree MSc in Facility Management or MSc in Real Estate Management by the University of Greenwich. Accredited by the UK government.

Professional Master Degree (MA), issued by Zuyd University, accredited by the Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO).
Study Plan
The Master Facility & Real Estate Management is a 14-months, full time study with a study load of 90 ects credits. The programme consists of four terms. Terms 1 and 2 comprise the FM/RE core, and include issues like Management Principles, Project Management, Critical Thinking, Research Methods, Asset Management, Support Services, Building Management, Corporate Real Estate Management and Economics. During the second term, students also have the option of following either Quality or Information Management classes (FM core), or Quality Management or Economics (RE core). During the programme, students will have to choose between getting a degree in Facility Management or Real Estate Management.
Students will follow classes two full days a week during the first two terms (Thursdays and Fridays for 9 months) and work on their research and dissertation during the final two terms (5 months). The dissertation is seen as the most valuable instrument for students to enhance the coherence in the study programme. Students need to choose the topic of the dissertation at an early stage of the programme. The context of the dissertation can be used as context for course assignments.
International dimension
Many of the programmes at Zuyd University have ties with foreign educational institutions. For example, Zuyd University is a member of HORA EST, a network of universities of applied sciences in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion. Several schools are members of the Magellan Exchange, a consortium of European and American universities. 14% of Zuyd University's students come from outside the Netherlands.
