In the 21st century, migration processes increasingly contribute to the shaping of societies. The presence of migrants consequently adds emphasis to intercultural relations and communication, which are of key importance for social cohesion.
The European Master of Arts in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR) responds to this trend by providing a state-of-the-art education in theoretical concepts, empirical methods and trans-disciplinary approaches to migration studies. The EMMIR has been jointly developed by seven institutions:
- University of Oldenburg, Germany
- University of Stavanger, Norway
- University of South Bohemia, Czech Republic
- University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia
- Ahfad University for Women, Omdurman, Sudan
- Makerere University Kampala, Uganda
- Mbarara University of Science & Technology, Uganda
The programme is administered by the University of Oldenburg, and students must commence their studies in Germany. After the first semester they can decide where they will go on exchange to other partner institutions.
