This program will inspire and challenge you to contribute to the future of the fashion industry by providing you with the key pathways to influence global fashion design.
The Master of Fashion (Design) allows you to explore advanced approaches to fashion. The exploratory space of RMIT’s fashion studios will enable you to critically investigate and develop your practice working both independently and with your peers, alongside leading local and global practitioners.
The Master of Fashion (Design) gives you the platform to extend your fashion design practice, culminating in a unique body of work, such as an extensive fashion collection that will be publicly showcased. This program will enable you to develop your knowledge, proficiency and expertise within a global fashion environment, underpinned by an in-depth understanding of the social and cultural shifts and how they impact on the fashion system.
Throughout your studies you will build critical relationships and connectivity with the global fashion industry that will influence your practice in response to fashion, related industries and creative practices. Together with these alliances, leading researchers and practitioners will support the development of your practice, research and future career intentions. You will be exposed to insights into working in international fashion practice and have the opportunity to work with high profile companies. These experiences will assist in realising your independent fashion concepts within an international context.
By positioning your practice within the relevant industry context you will be able to innovate and challenge existing communities of practice. You will graduate from this program with an advanced mastery and knowledge to interrogate fashion through research and practice and contribute to the future direction of fashion industries.

You must have:
- Successfully completed an Australian three year bachelor degree in fashion design (or equivalent overseas qualification) with a GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 (65% average), or
- A four year bachelor honours degree in fashion design (or equivalent overseas qualification).

Selection tasks
Applicants with a three year degree in fashion design must submit a folio.
Folio Requirement
Your folio should reflect how you have engaged in the conceptual, creative and applied process of fashion design appropriate to your background and to express your design and research interests.
What to include in your folio:
- We recommend your folio consists of no more than 15 pieces of work. This can include examples from previous study, personal or industry design experience.
- Folios at this level do not have a specific format and will vary depending on the experience and focus of the applicant.
You should include:
- Evidence of research and conceptual analysis
- Evidence of design process
- Evidence of sustained written work
- Finished garments or prototypes in physical or documented form
- Publications, photographs, films or other forms of fashion communication.
How to present your folio:
You are required to submit a folio in PDF or JPEG format with your application.
You can photograph or scan your work, but please make sure it is in focus and well presented. Each electronic file should be no larger than 10MB.
