Forensic Science

This is really a three-year program that produces scientists that have a good background in the chemical and biological sciences. All these are coupled together with specialised expertise in forensic science involving methods of forensic investigation, crime scene analysis, forensic photography, forensic analysis, crime and criminal justice and complex cases. Students may elect to additional specialise in forensic sciences, chemistry or microbiology by selecting additional electives or studies in a unrelated or related subject. Career opportunities involve forensic investigators, crime scene investigators, private investigators and advisers, police , drug analysts, researchers and academics, and specialised forensic science practitioners. The principal employers of forensic scientists have been State and Federal authorities services, State and Commonwealth Government Health Departments and analytical chemistry labs. Candidates will soon be versatile with a wide skills base with (depending on their choice of electives) capacity for job in analytical chemistry and microbiology, quality control and confidence, biochemistry and molecular sciences, scientific research, instruction and also the chemical industry.

• Year 12 or equivalent
• Assumed knowledge: Atleast 2 of Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics
