Description
Our Geography BA Honours degree offers an extremely flexible study programme. You can select from a wide range of topics in human and physical geography, such as:
- economic and political globalisation
- uneven development
- climate and environmental change
You will enjoy a high level of fieldwork in both the UK and abroad, with field visits ranging from nearby Northumberland to New York, Morocco and Iceland.
A dissertation in your third year enables you to showcase your skills to employers by conducting your own research alongside our highly respected research staff.

Course Content
Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

- A Levels
AAB-ABB including Geography and excluding General Studies. GCSE Mathematics (minimum grade C) is also required.
- Scottish Qualifications
AAABB-AABBB at Higher Grade including Geography and preferably Mathematics. Combinations of Highers and Advanced Highers accepted.
- International Baccalaureate
A minimum of 34-35 points with Geography at Higher Level grade 6 or above. Standard Level Mathematics or Mathematical Studies required at grade 4 if not offered at Higher Level.
- Irish Leaving Certificate
A1A1A1B1B-A1A1B1B1B at Higher Level, including Geography.
- Access Qualifications
A level 3 geographical-based unit is desirable, and for the BSc programme a level 3 science-related unit is required. At least 30 level 3 credits at Distinction and in addition at least 15 level 3 credits at a minimum of Merit.
- BTEC Level 5 HND
Applicants will be considered on an individual basis.
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (formerly BTEC National Diploma)
Applicants will be considered on an individual basis.
- Cambridge Pre-U
D3,D3,M2-D3,M2,M2 in Principal Subjects including Geography. GCSE Mathematics (minimum grade C) is also required.
- English Language Requirements
For this degree you will need a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
