Geographers are concerned with practical issues as diverse as environmental degradation, sustainability of rural systems and communities, and the planning of the built environment. This major examines human activity in relation to contemporary issues of economic and community development and natural resource use and management. You will gain the technical skills for effective collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of information in courses such as cartographic methods, statistical methods, air-photo interpretation, and geographical information systems (GIS).Career opportunities may be found in rural and regional planning, environmental consulting and resource management, parks and recreation planning, urban land-use management and planning; retail, service, and industrial location; and teaching.
