Never has there been a more exciting time to get involved in international business. And with a Bachelor's in International Business Administration (IBA), not only will you understand the changing dynamics of global business - you will have the skills in place to pursue a career in it in a wide range of functions.

A three-year undergraduate program, the IBA offers a unique international learning experience: classmates from all over the world, international teaching staff, international study trips, and content that takes a global perspective. The four core areas within business administration are covered: accounting, finance, marketing, and organization and management.

An outstanding academic foundation is provided, including developing your ability to logically deconstruct theories and conduct scientific research. You will also gain a clear understanding of how to apply this knowledge within real-world day-to-day decision-making, and key vocational skills that will ensure you are well-prepared to hit the ground running in that all important first job.

Why International Business Administration

Learning in the IBA program is not sitting in the back of a lecture theatre. It is creative, interactive, involving, and always connected to what is happening in the real business world. Class sizes are kept small to keep you personally involved. You will examine case studies and are expected to participate in debates and analyses of the materials you encounter.

Working in small groups, you will have to manage the differences between you and your teammates in order to complete assignments and prepare presentations. The fact that your classmates come from all around the world makes this a cross-cultural exercise. Discover the differences between business idealogies in various world regions, and how they impact everything from communication to perspectives on trade.

Course Content

Studying International Business Administration (IBA) at Tilburg University means you will develop knowledge and skills for a career in business organizations. More specifically, you will develop the ability to think and act effectively when working with people in business organizations. In order to build this activity, the IBA program involves the development of skills in the area of communication, networking, teamwork, systematic research, planning, writing, reporting and entrepreneurship.

IBA prepares you for the international labour market in the field of business. Therefore, international aspects of business will be distinctive characteristics of the program. Not only with regard to the contents of the program, but also with respect to the design of the program and the student's learning opportunities.

The program creates an international community in which you learn to deal with cultural differences:

  • The program is taught in English and students from all over the world can enroll for the program.
  • Our recruitment and selection process is aimed at students with international ambitions.
  • Classes consist of students with different nationalities. Team work activities will be done in teams with students of different backgrounds.
  • The teachers in the program come from different countries as well.
  • Most courses stress the international aspects of doing business. Cases deal with problems of international companies and organizations.
  • In the third year of the program, students will have the opportunity to study one semester abroad.

Furthermore IBA is an academic program. This includes that the students will be involved in the acquisition of scientific knowledge, the application of this knowledge and the development of knowledge by doing research themselves. The development of critical thinking, analytic skills and an academic attitude are essential elements of the program. The lecturers of the courses are all involved in academic research groups with excellent reputations.

With Dutch diploma

You are eligible to apply for the International Business Administration program if you have one of the following diplomas:

  • VWO diploma as from 2010 with the following profile:
    • Economics and Society
    • Culture and Society, including Mathematics A or B
    • Natural Sciences and Health
    • Natural Sciences and Technology
  • VWO diploma up until 2009 with the following profile:
    • Economics and Society
    • Culture and Society, including Mathematics A1 and 2, or B1
    • Natural Sciences and Health
    • Natural Sciences and Technology
  • A diploma from the first year of a four year HBO-program, including the same course requirements as VWO

With non-Dutch diploma

You are eligible to apply for the International Business Administration program if you have one of the following diplomas:

  • An International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, including Mathematics Standard Level or Mathematics Higher Level. With an IB diploma including English and Mathematics Standard Level or Mathematics Higher Level, there are no extra tests required, or
  • A European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma, including Mathematics (3 hrs). With an EB diploma including English and Mathematics (3 hrs), there are no extra tests required, or
  • Another secondary or high school diploma that equals the Dutch VWO diploma, including English and Mathematics for which you have successfully passed or will pass the exam. For example, the German Abitur, or
  • A + O levels (3 A-levels), including Mathematics A level, or
  • 4 Advanced Placement subjects, including AP Math/Science.

English Language requirements

In addition, you may have to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of Mathematics and English. Proficiency in English can be demonstrated by taking either a TOEFL or an IELTS test. The required minimum score for TOEFL is 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) or 80 (internet based); for IELTS 6.0 (no partial scores below 5.5). The institutional code for TOEFL is 9860.

Mathematics Requirements

Mathematics is a required course. This means that even if you have a recognised diploma, you must be able to prove that you have a sufficient level of Mathematics. In some cases, the Admission Board might require you to participate in an entrance examination in Mathematics, called Colloquium Doctum.
