The aim of the Graduate School of Medicine is to promote advanced research that will contribute to breakthroughs in our understanding of the mechanisms of life processes, the conquering of diseases and improved health, as well as to produce international leaders in each field of medicine who possess outstanding scholarly competence and a high level of creative research skills.

1) Persons who have graduated or are expected to graduate from university by 31 March 2015.
2) Persons who have completed or are expected to complete 16 years of overseas curricular education
by 31 March 2015.
3) Persons who have completed or are expected to complete 16 years of overseas curricular education
by way of a distance education program while residing in Japan, by 31 March 2015.
4) Persons who have completed or are expected to complete a program in an educational facility in
Japan designated separately by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
that provides courses from a foreign university within the school education system of a foreign country
by March 31, 2015. This applies solely to those who have completed 16 years of school education in
said foreign country.
5) Persons who have completed on or after the date specified by the Minister of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology or who are expected to complete by 31 March 2015 a specialized
course at a vocational school (limited to those with a minimum duration of four years and that otherwise
meet the standards specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
(6) Persons designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in Notification No. 5 (1953) of the Ministry of Education (Note 1).
7) Persons who have been awarded or are expected to be awarded by 31 March 2015 a bachelor’s
degree in accordance with the provisions of Article No. 104-4 of the School Education Act (Note 2).
8) Persons who have completed 15 years of overseas curricular education, or who have completed 15
years of overseas school curricular education by way of a distance education program while residing in
Japan, and who are recognized by the Graduate School of Medicine as having completed prescribed
academic units with excellent results (Note 3).
9) Persons who have completed a foreign country's university course at an educational institution in
Japan (limited to those persons who have completed 15 years of the said foreign country's curricular
education) which is designated in the said foreign country's education system and specifically
designated in Japan by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; and who
are recognized by the Graduate School of Medicine as having completed prescribed academic units
with excellent results (Note 3).
10) Persons who are recognized by the Graduate School of Medicine based on an individual eligibility
review as having academic ability equivalent or superior to that of a university graduate, and who are
aged 22 years or older on 31 March 2015 (Note 4).


Note 1: Eligibility criterion (6) above includes those who have graduated or are expected to graduate from a
university prescribed by the old University Ordinance, or from an academy or college etc. prescribed
by the organizational ordinances/establishment acts of various government ministries.
Note 2: Eligibility criterion (7) above covers those who have been awarded or are expected to be awarded a
bachelor's degree from a degree-conferring institution or the National Institution for Academic
Degrees and University Evaluation (NIAD-UE).
Note 3: Persons who intend to apply under eligibility criteria (8) or (9) above must contact the Graduate
School of Medicine's Administration Office before applying.
Note 4: Eligibility criterion (10) above is intended for those who do not fall under eligibility criteria (1) - (9)
but who have graduated from an educational institution that is equivalent to a four-year university,
and have been deemed by the Graduate School of Medicine on the basis of an individual eligibility
review to have academic ability equivalent or superior to that of a university graduate.
- Persons who intend to apply for admission under eligibility criterion (10) above must first undergo
an individual eligibility review, and must therefore apply to the Graduate School of Medicine's
Administration Office (see 6(3) below) and submit all documents required for the review by Monday,
2 June 2014.
- Persons who are deemed by the Graduate School of Medicine on the basis of an eligibility review
to have academic ability equivalent or superior to that of a university graduate shall be permitted to
take the entrance exam upon application.
